Leave of Absence
There are points in our lives when we need to take time off from work to care for ourselves or our loved ones. If you are seriously ill, or you have a newborn or elderly parent to care for, you might want to take a leave of absence. Knowing the law can make your decision easier. The Family and Medical Leave Act allows for you to take 12 weeks of unpaid leave per year.
There are some qualifying conditions. You must have an employment history of 12 months, prior to taking leave. Furthermore, your worksite must have 50 or more employees.
